THE MEANING OF MERDEKA TO MY SELF
Every year on 31 August all Malaysian will celebrate a big festival known as ‘Independence Day’. Everybody hang many flags or we call as ‘Jalur Gemilang’ on their motorcycle or car either kids also put the flag on their bicycle. This year we will celebrate the 51 of independence day. We should be proud to our government because they lead our country to this level. We also should proud to be Malaysian because Malaysia was a modern country. We have our own brand national car that is Proton. They was produce in several models of car such as Proton Waja, Proton Wira and many more. We also has a very high Petronas Twin Tower. The tower have 88 floors. The multi-racial people make our country more interesting because we have many culture. But in this 21 century do we really know what is meaning of ‘Merdeka’?.
Maybe for the most teenagers the meaning of ‘Merdeka’ to them is school holiday because every year on 31 August is a public holiday. They was happy because they was free. They free from school, school’s rules, teachers, and homeworks. They does not have to study and listen to teacher’s voice. They like to rest and sleep at home or play video game. At midnight before 31 August they can hang out and enjoy with their friends and girlfriend at Dataran Merdeka to wait for the countdown. In addition, for the illegal racers ‘Merdeka’ is for a racing day. They will race to get money and ladies. They will upgrade their motorcycle to win the race.
In the other hand, the meaning of ‘Merdeka’ for me is different. Meaning of ‘Merdeka’ is freedom. Its not means free to do anythings but free from intruder. We never have to follow intruder’s order anymore. We free to lead our country in our own ways without any intruder. People does not have to suffer anymore. We can live in peace. Our soldiers and grandparents were fighting the intruder until they was killed in the battle. They were sacrificed to make sure the intruder get out from ‘Tanah Melayu’. They tried many ways to make sure intruder cannot lead the ‘Tanah Melayu’. Finally the first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman went to London to get the independent of Malaya. After that Malaya was free and peace. Thats why Tunku Abdul Rahman known as the father of independent. We have to thank to him. We should feel grateful to god and do not be arrogant. The conclusion is merdeka is to make ourself and our country better than in the past time.
